Comprehensive Clinic Evaluation

Each new patient receives a comprehensive medical evaluation.   This first  evaluation includes your medical history and a physical examination pertinent to your pain problem. This initial visit lasts approximately 30-40 minutes. In many cases, we require additional tests, such as laboratory tests, xray(s), CT scan, MRI as well as information from your other physicians.

Upon reviewing all necessary information, our provider(s) will talk with you about whether obtaining treatment through Odyssey Pain Center is right for your pain problem.  If we are able to assist you, our physician(s) will gladly recommend a treatment plan to reduce pain and improve your quality of life.  After initiation of the plan, you may be seen for follow-up visits as determined by the treatments have been recommended as well as the degree of improvement of your pain and function.  You may also be referred to other specialists (such as neurologists, rheumatologists, oncologists, surgeons, psychiatrists and/or physical therapists) at any time if it is deemed appropriate for your condition.

We want you to be an active participant in your care.  Please ask us if you do not understand the potential benefits, risks and alternatives of treatments offered.  We want you to feel comfortable with your treatment course. We are here to help and it is important that you and your physicians work together as partners to help resolve your pain.

Procedures

If a procedure is determined to be the next best step to help diagnose or relieve your pain, you will need to prepare for your upcoming procedure. This may include tasks such as stopping certain medicines, not eating or drinking before a specific treatment and arranging for an escort to drive you home afterward.  Please ask our staff about our requirements prior to undergoing procedures with us.   Most procedures are done in our office through safe and minimally invasive techniques skillfully performed under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic (“xray”) guidance.  We utilize one of the most advanced digital c-arm machines available on the market today.

Some of the most commonly performed procedures are listed below:

Medications

In addition to the above minimally invasive procedure(s), your personal treatment plan may include medications. Odyssey Pain Center promotes non-narcotic therapies which can help achieve long term pain relief.  Odyssey Pain Center routinely utilizes a “trust but verify” system involving phone discussions with your other physicians, review of your prior medical records, review of your prescription history from your state’s prescription drug monitoring program, laboratory drug testing (of urine, saliva and/or blood), random pill counts as well as written agreements to ensure your safety prior to considering any medications.

If you need assistance in treating opioid addiction/abuse, our provider(s) are authorized to inject Vivitrol and may be able to help you.
